Whether you love to iron or hate to iron, it’s going to be part of your weekly routine. Ironing helps kill germs on your clothes, remove bad smells and get rid of creases. While it might be something you do often, there are some tips you can follow to make it that bit easier. From letting your clothes dry first to hanging your clothes up as soon as possible and shower steaming, there are plenty of hacks that you can follow. Here we list 9 of them…
If you have a few clothes that need ironing, turn to your dryer to do the job instead. Spray a small amount of water on your clothing and then put them in the dryer for a few minutes. By spraying them with water, the water will steam up, reducing the wrinkles within your clothes and reducing the need to iron them. This is particularly useful if you need to leave in a rush.
It’s a simple tip but it’s one that works extremely well. If you’ve bought a more affordable iron, then now could be the time to upgrade. A good quality iron will make the jobs a lot more efficient and smooth out creases quicker saving you a lot of time.
If you have freshly ironed your clothes, try to let them cool down before wearing them. When wearing your clothing, like a shirt, immediately, it will be more susceptible to creasing. Sometimes your shirt can look worse than before you ironed it if you put it on too quickly.
If you’ve not got an iron available or you are in a really big rush, shower steaming can be the solution to your problems. Hang your clothing items up near the shower and put the shower on its hottest heat. The steam from the shower will reduce the creases making your clothes look a lot neater.
As soon as your clothes have finished washing or are coming out of the dryer, hang them up. By putting them on a coat hanger straight away, you’ll reduce the wrinkles making them look freshly ironed. You’ll spend a lot less time ironing by following this method.
As with anything in life, the more you use it, the less effective it gets. Irons in particular can collect dirt and grit the more they are used. If you are not regularly cleaning them, they will work less effectively and you risk the dirt transferring to your freshly cleaned clothes. Even if you think your iron is clean, it’s always worth giving it a wipe.
You may be doing this one without realising. When ironing, avoid going over your clothes in a circular motion. By doing a circular motion, you can stretch the material of your clothes, scratch them and change the fit. Instead, straight movements from top to bottom should do the trick.
From washing to ironing, it’s always advised to turn your clothes inside out. When washing, this stops your clothes from rubbing, causing the colours to slightly fade. When ironing, it also helps protect the colours as well as preventing you from burning the logos from your tops.
If ironing is something you really can’t stand, then why not have the hassle taken out of it completely? Instead, turn to a professional such as Lady Valet who can pick up your laundry, iron it all for you and have it dropped back at your door in pristine condition.
